In The Shadows Of The Underground

FALL 2023 / PRINT

The goal of this project was to design a book based on two disparate texts that share underlying similarities. In the Shadows of the Underground explores the queer subtext in Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club through the lens of Thomas Mallon's memoir, Finding My Way—and Staying Alive—During the AIDS Crisis. Throughout this project, I explored how to create a cohesive layout while maintaining the integrity of the two original texts.

Courtesy of photographer Therese Frare and The LIFE Images Collection, this book focuses on photos documenting victims of AIDS, in order to better contextualize Fight Club through this lens.
